Rush Limbaugh calls Soldiers “Phony”

Rush Killing himself with tobacco
(If only that process were quicker)
Rush Limbaugh has gotten away with a lot. He has insulted a man with Parkinson’s disease. He has attacked all of the “Immoral” democrats for all of their liberal positions. He has said the Democrats “want to lose” in Iraq. This time, however, Rush has gone too far. During the September 26th edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, during a call with “Mike” from Olympia, he referred to soldiers who are supporting withdrawal from Iraq as “Phony”. What Happens When There’s No Affordable Housing?
September 28, 2007 by Joshua Davis · 5 Comments
What is the definition of homelessness? Not having a home. Affordable housing is about preventing homelessness, not about helping poor people spend less money on their home.
The effects of homelessness on a community can be huge. They can become prey for criminals, who then start expanding from the homeless to others. Homeless people can cause hygiene issues. And most important to conservatives, rampant homelessness lowers the quality of life for the entire community.
When the government assists the low income through housing incentives, they are preventing homelessness. When some conservatives here the words, they imagine helping low income citizens lower their housing budget. But it does far more than this, it helps improve the entire community, assuming it’s done right.
Building a fifteen story cement building with malfunctioning elevators is not the solution. By spending a little more money distributing affordable housing all over a city or county most issues can be completely avoided. For instance education is viewed as a way to earn a living. But when schools fail to provide a means for students to have successful career, many will look to criminal alternatives. When you can’t just look at a community, and say “There’s the poor section,” it becomes harder for someone else to say “Let’s not give the school over here the resources it needs.”
Revolutions are almost always started by the poor and disenfranchised. If a society can keep groups from being disenfranchised, by just giving a little of their resources to them, they help keep their way of life.
Conspiracy!

Okay, as a disclaimer the following opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of ThinkYouth.net
Haven’t you guys noticed that since 9/11 there has been an explosion of “the government is trying to get us!” crap going around? One day during my MySpace pillaging I have came across one of these conspiracy fanatics. Being open minded I decided to read what he had to say.
In doing so, I also discovered Prison Planet (www.prisonplanet.com). I like it how Alex Jones uses FLAWED logic to get his arguments across. So, for the some of you who are actually concerned what our Government might be up to, here’s a couple of tips.
1. Pay attention to the newspaper and do not count on websites like Prison Planet for what’s going on. The views on many websites are biased (including this one) and have their own agenda. Some of them may be noble, but most of the time they are in it for the shock value.
2. If you are unhappy with something, DO SOMETHING about it and not just sit there and whine about it. Really, we choose who runs our country, might as well as be a smart person than C average.
3. Have some common sense. While it might be true that Bush had used wire tapping to find out what the country is doing, he is not trying to take over the world. Big business men are not trying to take over the world. No one is going to force communism on you. I just want to make this clear because most conspiracy websites are claiming that a group of people will take over the world and become rich while the rest of us are broke and if we say anything unpleasant we get shot it. It’s the 21st century. Enjoy it.
In general, I just want these doom-and-gloom types to stop trying to make us sensible people scared and feel helpless. Really… that attitude is not productive whatsoever.
Republicans: The Other Environmentalists
September 26, 2007 by Joshua Davis · 15 Comments
Gary Baise was the first EPA Chief of Staff. He has worked on many cases concerning the environment. And now he (a Republican) is running for county chairman in a heavily Democratic jurisdiction. Most of his views are anti-liberal, from his stance that the County needs an “Ironclad immigration lock-down,” to his views that “Education spending should be second or third priority.”
But the one issue he “agrees” with Democrats on is the environment. This may come as a shock, but in reality he’s toting the party line. The GOP views the EPAs goal as “Restoring the balance between the environment and America.” By that they mean allowing oil drilling from the Everglades to Alaskan wildlife preserves, allowing companies to use dangerous pesticides, and a myriad of other offenses.
The Washington Post even did an article on just how many times this so called Republican environmentalist worked against the environment. In the 80s Baise defended building a highway under New York’s Upper Westside, claiming it would not destroy fish habitats, when he had knowledge it would. Gary Baise also defended farmers burning land to such an extent it caused others respiratory issues.
And this guy says the current chairman “Put to much of an emphasis on mass transit.” The current chairman, Gerry Connoly (D-At Large) pushed heavily for metro rail through Fairfax Counties downtown, which is also the Nations 12th largest business district. The current chairman has also put on hold plans to expand some of the main arteries into Tysons Corner. But Baise wants to widen the road, making the 6 lane, highspeed road even more pedestrian unfriendly.
I don’t have a problem with this guy for holding views opposite of mine. But discouraging transit use can not be called environmentalism. Nor can opposing building walkable communities near transit stops be called that. It reminds of how the Republican party are masters at calling right wrong, and wrong right. Sort of like the Patriot Act is perhaps the most unpatriotic law.
Bill O’Reilly is an anti-American Hypocrite
September 23, 2007 by Harrison · 8 Comments
Bill O’ Reilly recently accused Daily Kos, a liberal web site, of being full of hate speech. But, here are are just a few quotes from the man himself. “I just wish Katrina had only hit the United Nations building, nothing else, just had flooded them out, and I wouldn’t have rescued them.” “That’s my advice to all homosexuals, whether they’re in the Boy Scouts, or in the Army or in high school: Shut up, don’t tell anybody what you do, your life will be a lot easier.” “Yeah, I’m obnoxious, yeah, I cut people off, yeah, I’m rude. You know why? Because you’re busy.” “You know what’s really frightening? You (Jon Stewart) actually have an influence on this presidential election. That is scary, but it’s true. You’ve got stoned slackers watching your dopey show every night and they can vote.”"It’s hard to do it because you gotta look people in the eye and tell ‘em they’re irresponsible and lazy. And who’s gonna wanna do that? Because that’s what poverty is, ladies and gentlemen. In this country, you can succeed if you get educated and work hard. Period. Period.” “We cannot intervene in the Muslim world ever again. What we can do is bomb the living daylights out of them.” “If Hillary wins, I will be respectful of our leader. If you could read my thoughts, I would be on the SS [Secret Service] watch list.” “As a woman, i would open the door for her…..now, if there was nothing on the other side but empty space and a 50 foot drop into a moat filled leeches and (gulp) rats…well, I can’t be held responsible.”
Bill O’Reilly is an anti American hypocrite. On his shows when he feels his opponent is making a good point he either shouts at them to the point of silence or cuts their mic. This is a complete contradiction of freedom of speech, even though he is such a big advocate on protecting American rights. He also talks about family values, even though he has been quoted to say this to a female employee working on his show: “So anyway I’d be rubbing your big boobs and getting your nipples really hard, kinda’ kissing your neck from behind…and then I would take the other hand with the falafel thing and I’d just put it on your p***y but you’d have to do it really light, just kind of a tease business…”.
In his book he said “And guys, if you exploit a girl, it will come back to get you. That’s called ‘karma.’”. You can almost smell the hypocrisy steaming off of it. He also said “If the Americans go in and overthrow Saddam Hussein and it’s clean, he has nothing, I will apologize to the nation, and I will not trust the Bush administration again”. Huh, and where are the WMD and his apology to the nation? Bill, you are an ignorant, propaganda spouting drunk lunatic, and it’s about time your ratings took a dive.

Proof The GOP Fails the Black Vote
September 18, 2007 by Joshua Davis · 9 Comments
If you go to gop.com, the official website of the Republican party you’ll find they have multiple categories for various issues. Immigration reform, woman, economy… They also have one for African-Americans, but when you visit that category they have only one blog post.
It goes on to talk about how African America education scores have increased on the Republican white house and congress. I guess that’s why lower SAT scores where blamed on more African Americans and Latinos taking the test. Anyways I’m not here to critique their lone post.
Today the Senate will be holding a vote on weather Washington DC (62% black) will have proper representation in the House of Representatives. The vote today is only a procedural one, if they get 60 or more votes to avoid a filibuster, then they’ll move on to the real “vote” later this session. But house minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) says “The right to vote is fundamental, and I will fight any attempt to dilute or impede that right, my opposition to this bill rests instead on a single all-important fact: It is clearly and unambiguously unconstitutional.” Most other Senate Republicans hold this view.
Not to vilify all Republicans on this issue, because Tom Davis (R-Va) cosponsored this legislation. But if this vote fails due to Republican opposition it will be the first voting rights filibuster since segregation was ended.
Update
The vote had 57 yes votes, and 42 no votes, with a Democrat from West Virginia, missing the vote, because he believes it is unconstitutional. Either ways they would have still been 2 votes short.
Hillary Slowly Backing Away From the Left
September 17, 2007 by Jeff Pritchard · 6 Comments

With the beginning of the primary season came Politics as usual. The Democrats all lining up to cater to the left, and the Republicans doing the same to the right. Usually this process will last until the final primary votes are cast, when the candidates return to more centrist positions to please mainstream America. One candidate, with her health care “reform” plan today, took the first step back in to the center. That candidate, of course, is Hillary Clinton, and in the primaries, this could cost her big time.

Key US Ally Killed in Iraq
September 13, 2007 by Wayne · Leave a Comment

Sunni sheikh, Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha, was killed by a roadside bomb today that detonated near the tribal leaders home in Ramadi, Anbar’s provincial capital.
This assassination is a huge set-back in the United State’s war in Iraq and took place only 10 days after President Bush spoke with him during his surprise visit to Iraq. George Bush was also expected to defend his war strategy a few hours after the death.
America can expect a tougher time recruiting allies in this war after this unfortunate loss. This attack can be seen as a message from the enemies saying, “If you assist or ally yourselves with the United States or against us then you will be dealt with.”
I will post the original article, but be warned. The article starts off talking about the loss of an ally, but turns quickly into “LET’S MAKE WAR WITH IRAN” propaganda.
End Poverty, End Most of America’s Problems
September 13, 2007 by Dan Solis · 3 Comments

Conservatives look at the moral issues of our time as the following: making abortions illegal, outlawing gay marriage, keeping capital punishment, and passing stricter laws that would forbid consensual underage sex. They don’t understand that there is a deeper root of the problem causing these issues. You have to look at the source of the problem, not just the problem itself. Read more
Young Adults Can Go To War, But Can’t Own Guns
September 10, 2007 by Joshua Davis · 1 Comment
The mayor of Cleveland wants to ban guns for people under 21. Not just from buying a gun, but from possessing a firearm. Considering that you have to register for selective service in order to participate in modern society, it seems you should be able to posses a fire arm.
And what happens when you pick and choose who can have guns? Since African Americans supposedly shoot and kill more than the average American, should guns be banned from us too? Or what about families that have mentally ill members? The mayor did have the ban idea right, it just needs to be applied fairly, which means on everyone.
Of course you know I’m anti-gun, and I feel the military should be the only one with guns. But there needs to be a complete ban for people of all ages. And what are our under 21 soldiers supposed to do when they come back to Cleveland, turn their weapons over to the police until they leave the city? I hope the mayor realizes a haphazard response won’t decrease crime.
