The Cult of Ron Paul
September 1, 2007 by Dan Solis

Ron Paul’s support is just like a cult. They claim he is for freedom and liberty. To them freedom means no taxes, every man for themselves, and not caring about ending poverty. And if you try to use that freedom of speech to criticize Ron Paul, his supporters want your head. That sure doesn’t sounds like freedom to me. Ron Paulers try to make Ron Paul out of something he is not.
Freedom is not only for the people who you choose. Ron Paul is a social conservative. He is against abortion rights, against gay rights. Here’s why Ron Paul is not a progressive Democrat’s friend. In 2005, Ron Paul introduced the “We the People Act”.
If made law, the Act would forbid federal courts (including the Supreme Court) from hearing cases on subjects such as the display of religious text and imagery on government property, abortion, sexual practices, and same-sex marriage, and would forbid federal courts from spending any money to enforce their judgments. [Wikipedia]
Discrimination to groups of people is not Freedom, Dr. Ron Paul. Ron Paul strongly believes in state’s rights, and if this legislation was passed as he wanted, he believes that their right to a trial would be shot down at the state level, and being unable to move onto the federal court system, their case would end.
And Ron Paul is a racist. The information was uncovered in a past e-mail “Freedom Watch” newsletter sent out by his staff.
“If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be.”
“Politically sensible blacks are outnumbered as decent people…I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city (Washington) are semi-criminal or entirely criminal.” [everything2.com]
Many crazy Ron Paulers try to brush off the incident as false and not actually of Ron Paul. Although he didn’t or most likely didn’t write the newsletter himself, why would anything like that even go out? You would never catch any of the more legitimate candidates accidentally sending out an unapproved racist e-mails. It would never happen, which confirms that Ron Paul is an extreme fringe candidate trying to act like someone he is not. He preaches liberties and freedoms, but only for the white Christian America.
I’ll admit, Ron Paul does have a lot of online support. But those same people will harass you, intimate you, and even threaten you if you expose Ron Paul. If you are one of those Ron Paulers, please get help. Ron Paul is a Libertarian sellout to the Republican Party, because he is so much like them, and he knows it. Ron Paul is not the man to bring hope and pride back to America. He wants to close off America to the world, and in America he wants everyone closed off to themselves.

Lower taxes do mean more freedom, since you are free to spend your money on what matters to you, rather than having it confiscated and spent on things you do not want
Every man for themselves is a deceptive phrase. It would be more accurate to believe that Libertarians believe that voluntary cooperation, rather than enforced confiscation, is the best way for people to help each other.
Again, to say “Not caring about ending poverty” is deceptive. I believe that poverty is chiefly a product of government, and that the best way to reduce poverty is to reduce the government interventions in the economy what create it. This is hard to understand, unless you know something about economics. I suggest that you pick up a good book, perhaps “Economics for Real People”, which you can get at mises.org.
Anyway, having looked around a bit at your site, I don’t want to waste much time on you, but I did want to correct the first few incorrect statements you made. I will take the time to mention that Ron Paul is not a racist, and never has been. Something which he did not write slipped into a newsletter which bore his name. It was an error, a serious error, but it happens. If you research the incident, you will find out that your portrayal of it is false.

I don’t believe one can be a humanitarian and against freedom. All virtues in society seem to flow fro freedom. The welfare state of the modern left just creates dependency and reduces human dignity. The corporatism of the modern right just transfers wealth from the poor to the rich and powerful. History shows that the more free people are the more poverty is reduced and true charity is created.

Great post. Ron Paul followers ARE just like cult followers. THey ignore the painfully obvious flaws in his thinking. He wants everyone to be on their own, have guns and pay no taxes. That would take America back to the 1800s or earlier. That’s not a place most people would want to live. I just found your podcast and I’m subscribing … I do one too. (Check out my website.)
