Dear America

October 23, 2008 by WilliamGilbert89 · Leave a Comment

Dear America,

“For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future. “- John Fitzgerald Kennedy

We have come to a time in American History, where the hour of change is at hand for every American citizen. It is now apparent that we as Americans have allowed the past administration to neglect the very nation we hold so true. Under the administrations past have allowed our troops to fight for honor in a dishonorable war and our economy slip into economic peril. For far too many years we have bled our economy with two wars and as a result we have lost jobs for hard working Americans, neglected our infrastructure , and crippled our credit market. We have fed the bellies of fats cats in Washington and Wall Street to the point that the entire U.S. economy is suffering from economic starvation.

“Don’t forget what I discovered that over ninety percent of all national deficits from 1921 to 1939 were caused by payments for past, present, and future wars.” -Franklin D. Roosevelt

The war in Iraq alone has unmercifully bled our economy dry and set of a chain reaction of economic calamity across the entire globe. The Iraqi war was founded on false and dishonorable pretenses and has adversely strained our alliances across the world. Many believe that if we stay in Iraq that somehow we can win a fruitless war and leave with our dignity and honor. Yet, the reality is that we must admit and apologize for our dishonorable intrusion of Iraq ,for that is the true honorable way. The definition of Honor is as stated: honesty, fairness, or integrity in one’s beliefs and actions. A nation with honor is a nation who is honest in it’s values to be truthful to its people and the world. A nation with honor has the fairness to allow other nations to live in peace and prosperity. A nation with true honor is a nation with integrity, integrity to admit to their mistakes and take pride in correcting them. This America is Honor.

The past five years of war has severely wounded the American economy and to heal these wounds we must end our campaign in Iraq. The economic hemorrhaging of the Iraq war has crippled this great nation and strained our foreign stance in the world. We as a nation must unify under our founding principles of Liberty and Freedom to restore our glory and democracy.

“I am concerned about the whole man. I am concerned about what the people, using their government as an instrument and a tool, can do toward building the whole man, which will mean a better society and a better world. “- Lyndon B. Johnson

Together as a nation we must mature in to one and at this time in America we have lost sight of the unity that made us into a nation. For America to survive the test of time must open our minds and allow the bells of liberty ring into the 21st Century.
Sincerely,

William Gilbert, Jr.

Tim Russert Dies at age 58

The very sad news has just broken that Tim Russert, moderator of Meet the Press, has died at age 58. Russert has been a key figure in the coverage of the 2008 Election cycle, and will be deeply missed. Russert had just returned from Europe on a trip celebrating the college graduation of his son. The thoughts of everyone at Think Youth go out to Russert’s family.

Libertarian Debate at 9:00 EST Tonight on C-Span

May 24, 2008 by Elizabeth Cable · 32 Comments

It is May 24th, and the Libertarians are in the midst of their National Convention in Denver. The Convention started on May 22nd, and will continue until May 26th. This year, there are many candidates for Libertarians to choose from. Six of those candidates acquired enough “tokens” today to participate in a Live Libertarian Debate on C-Span tonight, at 9-11 o’clock Eastern time, 6-8 o’clock Pacific time.

Concerning “tokens” the Libertarian Party website clarifies, “The 12 presidential candidates who made the trip to Denver for the National Convention have been petitioning Libertarian delegates for their support in the form of delegate tokens, which go towards qualifying candidates for certain events at the national convention.”

The candidates debating will be Former Alaskan Senator Mike Gravel, Former Congressman Bob Barr, Mary Ruwart (a Libertarian party activist), George Phillies (Libertarian activist and professor of physics), Steve Kubby (Libertarian activist and cancer patient), Michael Jingozian, and Wayne Allyn Root (business mogul). Other Libertarian candidates who did not acquire enough tokens to debate were Christine Smith, Daniel Imperato, and Alden Link.

If you have any interest in the campaign for the 2008 Libertarian nomination, be sure to tune in tonight. Again, it starts this evening at 9 o’clock Eastern time on C-Span, and goes on until 11 o’clock. If you had the interest to watch the debate, please leave a comment here on what you thought about it.

Can Hillary Still Win?

May 13, 2008 by Dan Solis · 4 Comments

There have been a lot of people here at Think Youth asking, “Can Hillary Still Win?” or various others claiming she can’t win.

The simple answer to the question is, yes, Hillary can still win. And if Barack Obama, his campaign, or his supporters didn’t think so, they wouldn’t have spent the last few days attacking Clinton’s character. The attack style politics he denounces on the campaign trail, yet takes part in, is further proof of this. And, if Hillary Clinton could no longer win, there wouldn’t be any question of whether she can.

I would just like to go over many issues concerning the course of the Democratic nomination for president. So please read carefully.

First off, when did we get into the business of announcing a winner of a state before that state has yet to vote? Let’s first finish the process, let the voters of West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Montana, and South Dakota have their say.

AP Gives McCain Doughnuts, Compares Obama to Terrorist

April 15, 2008 by Joshua Davis · Leave a Comment

There’s been much talk of the media being somehow biased towards Barack Obama. But yesterday the presidential candidates appeared before the nation’s press. Then the chief of the AP asked if Obama would increase troop presence in Afghanistan where “Obama bin Laden is still at large?”

Later Dean Singleton gave McCain a box of donuts and coffee. But like Saturday Night Live’s sketch of Obama getting extra special treatment by the media, a similar scene actually happened to John McCain:

McCain’s moderators, the AP’s Ron Fournier and Liz Sidoti, greeted McCain with a box of Dunkin’ Donuts. “We spend quite a bit of time with you on the back of the Straight Talk Express asking you questions, and what we’ve decided to do today was invite everyone else along on the ride,” Sidoti explained. “We even brought you your favorite treat.”

McCain opened the offering. “Oh, yes, with sprinkles!” he said.

Sidoti passed him a cup. “A little coffee with a little cream and a little sugar,” she said.

This exchange raises a larger point. The media is being biased, but it’s not to any particular candidate. One reporter will favor Clinton, another Obama, and another McCain. And for those journalists that pretend to be unbiased, they give their support to whichever candidate appears winning at moment.

The Press Cares More About a Blue Dress than the Campaign

March 20, 2008 by Joshua Davis · 1 Comment

When Hillary’s white house calendar was released some hoped it would clear up details. Like how much she was actually involved in legislation and diplomacy. But what are the first items the press goes after? Where Hillary Clinton was during Bill’s Lewinsky affair. Here’s what ABC news had to say for their irrelevant”initial” review:

Hillary Clinton spent the night in the White House on the day her husband had oral sex with Monica Lewinsky, and may have actually been in the White House when it happened, according to records of her schedule released today by the National Archives.

The public schedule for Sen. Clinton on Feb. 28, 1997, the day on which Lewinsky’s infamous blue dress would become stained by the president, shows the first lady spent the morning and the night in the White House.

But it wasn’t just ABC, the front page of CNN’s Political Ticker also featured the story. The real news in the release was meanwhile buried. At least the LA Times had an article:

Federal archivists Wednesday released 11,000 pages of schedules from Hillary Rodham Clinton’s eight years as first lady, but the material offered little to support her assertion that her White House experience left her best prepared to become president.

What does the “blue dress” incident have to do with her campaign? Surely the press isn’t concerned that Hillary won’t know everything occurring in the 132 room, 55,000 square feet building. This type of story only distracts from the real news, like McCain repeatably and incorrectly claiming Iran was fueling Al-Qaeda in Iraq.

MSNBC: Incompetent Journalism.

March 13, 2008 by Dan Solis · 10 Comments

Tonight was the last night MSNBC will ever have it’s bottom right logo on my television screen. What really drew me over the edge was Keith Olbermann’s recent ‘Special Comment’ segment attacking Hillary Clinton, and shilling for Barack Obama. When news networks hire hosts like Keith Olbermann whose sole purpose is to let the viewers know their own personal opinion, it subtly tells the viewer that we are not smart enough to come up with our own opinion. MSNBC, Chris Matthews, and now Keith Olbermann have all lost their credibility as news journalists.

Let’s look at a brief history of the types of journalists and on-air personalities MSNBC has brought us: Read more

Corporate Control

February 6, 2008 by Elizabeth Cable · Leave a Comment

It is a well-known and unfortunate fact in the United States that businesses, corporations, and special interests play a much greater role in our politics and government than we would certainly like it to. There has been, for decades, if not centuries, the element to our politics that is the corrupting influence of money. It has become particularly pronounced in recent years, especially in this 2008 Presidential Election, where candidates of both political parties are raising millions and millions of dollars each in campaign cash. In fact, this could be the first billion-dollar presidential campaign in our country’s history. That is, assuredly, not a positive sign.

Barack Obama Slowly Fading Away

October 31, 2007 by Dan Solis · 1 Comment

Barack Obama is not seeing good times lately. The Hillary machine continues to surpass him in the polls, averaging a 30 point lead in the national polls. Obama supporters might argue that in state polls such as in Iowa, those generally considered to matter the most, he has a closer edge on Hillary. Obama does most definitely have the support of an overwhelming group of young first time voters. But in the past few weeks, his campaign has made irreversible gaffes that just might cost him the nomination.

Hillary has always been the front runner for the Democratic nomination. When Democrats think of the name ‘Clinton’ in elected politics, it provokes a sense of nostalgia that reminds them of the 1990s and a time of prosperity, and for the most part, peace. If Barack Obama wants to revive a handle on the nomination, he must be out there and talking about what he actually wants to do. His campaign has been great at putting out universal statements such as “Hope” and “Healing” the nation. Obama is worried about bringing the nation together, but how does he plan on doing that?

Conspiracy!

September 26, 2007 by rapidXtheXrudie · 3 Comments

Okay, as a disclaimer the following opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of ThinkYouth.net

Haven’t you guys noticed that since 9/11 there has been an explosion of “the government is trying to get us!” crap going around? One day during my MySpace pillaging I have came across one of these conspiracy fanatics. Being open minded I decided to read what he had to say.

In doing so, I also discovered Prison Planet (www.prisonplanet.com). I like it how Alex Jones uses FLAWED logic to get his arguments across. So, for the some of you who are actually concerned what our Government might be up to, here’s a couple of tips.
1. Pay attention to the newspaper and do not count on websites like Prison Planet for what’s going on. The views on many websites are biased (including this one) and have their own agenda. Some of them may be noble, but most of the time they are in it for the shock value.

2. If you are unhappy with something, DO SOMETHING about it and not just sit there and whine about it. Really, we choose who runs our country, might as well as be a smart person than C average.

3. Have some common sense. While it might be true that Bush had used wire tapping to find out what the country is doing, he is not trying to take over the world. Big business men are not trying to take over the world. No one is going to force communism on you. I just want to make this clear because most conspiracy websites are claiming that a group of people will take over the world and become rich while the rest of us are broke and if we say anything unpleasant we get shot it. It’s the 21st century. Enjoy it.

In general, I just want these doom-and-gloom types to stop trying to make us sensible people scared and feel helpless. Really… that attitude is not productive whatsoever.

Bill O’Reilly is an anti-American Hypocrite

September 23, 2007 by Harrison · 8 Comments

Bill O’ Reilly recently accused Daily Kos, a liberal web site, of being full of hate speech. But, here are are just a few quotes from the man himself. “I just wish Katrina had only hit the United Nations building, nothing else, just had flooded them out, and I wouldn’t have rescued them.” “That’s my advice to all homosexuals, whether they’re in the Boy Scouts, or in the Army or in high school: Shut up, don’t tell anybody what you do, your life will be a lot easier.” “Yeah, I’m obnoxious, yeah, I cut people off, yeah, I’m rude. You know why? Because you’re busy.” “You know what’s really frightening? You (Jon Stewart) actually have an influence on this presidential election. That is scary, but it’s true. You’ve got stoned slackers watching your dopey show every night and they can vote.”"It’s hard to do it because you gotta look people in the eye and tell ‘em they’re irresponsible and lazy. And who’s gonna wanna do that? Because that’s what poverty is, ladies and gentlemen. In this country, you can succeed if you get educated and work hard. Period. Period.” “We cannot intervene in the Muslim world ever again. What we can do is bomb the living daylights out of them.” “If Hillary wins, I will be respectful of our leader. If you could read my thoughts, I would be on the SS [Secret Service] watch list.” “As a woman, i would open the door for her…..now, if there was nothing on the other side but empty space and a 50 foot drop into a moat filled leeches and (gulp) rats…well, I can’t be held responsible.”

Bill O’Reilly is an anti American hypocrite. On his shows when he feels his opponent is making a good point he either shouts at them to the point of silence or cuts their mic. This is a complete contradiction of freedom of speech, even though he is such a big advocate on protecting American rights. He also talks about family values, even though he has been quoted to say this to a female employee working on his show: “So anyway I’d be rubbing your big boobs and getting your nipples really hard, kinda’ kissing your neck from behind…and then I would take the other hand with the falafel thing and I’d just put it on your p***y but you’d have to do it really light, just kind of a tease business…”.

In his book he said “And guys, if you exploit a girl, it will come back to get you. That’s called ‘karma.’”. You can almost smell the hypocrisy steaming off of it. He also said “If the Americans go in and overthrow Saddam Hussein and it’s clean, he has nothing, I will apologize to the nation, and I will not trust the Bush administration again”. Huh, and where are the WMD and his apology to the nation? Bill, you are an ignorant, propaganda spouting drunk lunatic, and it’s about time your ratings took a dive.

Kucinich has “Jusdom”

August 21, 2007 by Dan Solis · 8 Comments

Congressman Kucinich’s campaign has been gaining steam since last Sunday’s Iowa Democratic debate. He won the online poll, and when ABC tried to re-do the poll, he won the second time as well. But, at last Sunday’s debate Dennis Kucinich accidentally gave us the phrase “Jusdom“. A combination of Judgment, Wisdom and Maturity. Give or take Maturity.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfgpZPUGDj0
A recent online survey reported that a majority of Americans agree with Dennis on most issues. I’d like to have Dennis as president. Now you tell my why you are reluctant to support him, even if you are a progressive Democrat.
