Autism is real; Why Savage is wrong, and the need for free speech on the air waves.

On his July 17th broadcast, talk show host Michael Savage (who is not shy of controversy) claimed that autism is a “fraud” and the kids who have it are just “brats”. Immediately after his comments ,the Autism Society of America issued the following statement.
This week, talk show host Michael Savage made inaccurate and derogatory comments about autism on his radio show, calling the condition “a fraud” and the result of a lack of parental discipline. Mr. Savage’s unsubstantiated comments reflect the misconceptions of over 50 years ago that autism was caused by “refrigerator mothers” or unemotional parenting, which have been completely disproven by the scientific community. Autism is a neuro-developmental medical condition that requires early identification and lifelong treatment. For over 40 years, the Autism Society of America has worked tirelessly to educate people on the nature of autism spectrum disorders, the services and support families need, and the tremendous potential of people on the autism spectrum. We are dismayed that these grossly inaccurate remarks would be aired in any platform, much less on a nationally syndicated show. We will continue to work with families, people with autism and the broader public to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders.
I would rate this comment as his most inflammatory ever. More than his comment on protesting students who went on a hunger strike, and the one about Islam.
But nevertheless the efforts by Congressman Maurice Hinchey of Woodstock, NY are absolutely overbearing and wrong. He is attempting to bring the back the unconstitutional “fairness doctrine.” And now, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, now too supports this horrible bill.
Rush Limbaugh calls Soldiers “Phony”

Rush Killing himself with tobacco
(If only that process were quicker)
Rush Limbaugh has gotten away with a lot. He has insulted a man with Parkinson’s disease. He has attacked all of the “Immoral” democrats for all of their liberal positions. He has said the Democrats “want to lose” in Iraq. This time, however, Rush has gone too far. During the September 26th edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, during a call with “Mike” from Olympia, he referred to soldiers who are supporting withdrawal from Iraq as “Phony”. Boycott Michael Savage, and HATE Radio
August 20, 2007 by Dan Solis · 14 Comments
I hate to give attention to people who provide nothing to the political process except a loud money making scamming mouth. Michelle Malkin, Bill O’Reilly, and the ’she-devil’ aka Ann Coulter. (Let’s thank John Edwards for that hilariously true interpretation of her.) But in this case Michael Savage is the target.

The reason people like Michael “Weiner” Savage are on the air, and continue to stay on the air, are the listeners. It’s their fault. The people that continue to listen to him, even the ones who hate Savage, but who still listen to him anyways. Those same liberals, progressives, Democrats, and centrists, who say that the only reason they listen to Savage is because they like to hear what the ‘other side’ has to say on the issues of the day.
If you are one of those people who likes to hear the opposing side’s viewpoint, let me tell you why you should not be listening to Savage. Read more
Fairness Doctrine Part 3 and more

(Savage when he was on MSNBC)
The discussion of the fairness doctrine has always ended with Liberals liking it and Conservatives opposing it. Their is no fairness in radio. I just think its the station’s right to hire who they want not what the Government says to do.
Two days ago Savage said [MP3] that Atheists and Muslims hate Christians and Jews. Which is an out right lie!!!! I do not support what Dr. Savage says in any way.

More Media Matters followers try to get rid of Savage.
July 30, 2007 by koko chassid · 5 Comments
Media Matters and their supporters have started a new campaign to fire Michael Savage for saying “The homosexual left will bring the devil down to earth” and for Calling Dianne Feinstein a ho. Is this an excuse to bring back the fairness doctrine? Is it ok to stop conservative talk radio so liberals can have a larger role in radio?
Currently Michael Savage is the only conservative host who has “Listener Discretion Is Advised” (And rips me off on his DVD-but i got a refund). And he is making more money then any other talk show host in America (possibly the world).
Do you think the Fairness Doctrine should be brought back?

On June 27th, Kenton and I chewed our fingernails off live on the air waiting for an over-hyped guest that never called in. I, of course, am talking about Shirley Phelps-Roper of the Westboro Baptist Church (read the previous posts for more info). Well, we got kind of angry, and swore them off forever, until we realized that their absence may have been an honest mistake. So, we’ve booked them again, for Thursday, July 5th, from 6:30-7:00 P.M.
To make sure that a similar problem doesn’t arise, we’ve obtained a direct line to Shirley. So she doesn’t forget about the show, I will call her a few minutes prior to the beginning, and remind her. Hopefully, this will ensure that we have a guest on the line when the show starts. If you tuned into the last podcast to hear the conversation with Mrs. Phelps-Roper, please do the same on Thursday. There’s a good chance she’ll be there this time! Our call-in number is:
(646) 478-5825
Join in the discussion. Call us during the live show to be put on the air with our guest! All calls will be taken! Visit our Show Page for more details.
REJECT THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE!

I wanted a Democratic House, and I hope Rep. Maurice Hinchey doesn’t change my mind. He and 41 other House members have introduced a bill to the Senate called “The Fairness Doctrine”. It is a direct violation of the 1st Amendement “Freedom Of Speech”. Now I am not a Conservative! I feel Liberals stink at talk radio. How many times has Air America gone bankrupt? But that’s not an excuse to violate the 1st Amendment.
